While both offer a fantastic foundational base, crusher dust is finer in composition and results in a smoother finish.
Road base, on the other hand, is a mixture of more solid materials like granite, gravel, and limestone and is a better option when constructing, you guessed it, roads and pavements.

It’s also fantastic when laid beneath concrete slabs, to level the area and strengthen the stability of the structure and make it more solid.

What About Playground And Bricklaying Sand, Then?

Playground sand tends to be finer than bricklaying sand.

Often, playground sand has been through more extensive washing and rinsing to ensure it is safe for children to play with, while bricklaying sand is more coarse and has more fines to allow for a good mix on the board.

While playground sand can be used as a base for particular landscaping projects, this is not recommended as it can become too compact and cause foundational issues in the long run.

You can, however, use playground sand over turf as a top dressing product.
